What is a Long Term Social Visit Pass?
A Malaysian Long Term Social Visit Pass is issued to foreign nationals who want to stay in Malaysia for a period longer than six months. It is most commonly known as a Malaysia spouse visa, issued to spouses and family members of Malaysian citizens or Employment Pass holders.
This pass is also available for foreign nationals who need to undergo medical treatment in Malaysia along with one companion. The pass allows extended stays beyond the typical tourist visa duration.

Sponsor Submits Application
Malaysian citizen/EP holder submits application to Immigration Department or Immigration Office in Malaysia prior to foreign national's arrival
Applicant Must Be Present
If spouse of Malaysian citizen: Both Malaysian and foreign spouse must be present at Immigration when applying
Submit All Documents
Provide complete documentation as per requirements for your category
Wait for Approval
Immigration will process your application and issue Visa Approval Letter
Visa With Reference (VDR)
Required before traveling to Malaysia
Before traveling to Malaysia, the foreign national must obtain a Visa With Reference (VDR) from the nearest Malaysian embassy/consulate using the Visa Approval Letter.

Renewal
The Long Term Social Visit Pass can be renewed before it expires. Apply for renewal at the Immigration Department before your current pass expiration date.
Important: Start your renewal application at least 2-3 months before expiration to avoid any lapses in your legal stay.
Working Rights
Family Members of EP Holders
Cannot work with only a Long Term Social Visit Pass. Must apply for their own Employment Pass if they find an employer.
Requires separate Employment Pass application
Spouses of Malaysian Citizens
Can work in Malaysia without changing to Employment Pass. Must obtain work endorsement from Immigration Department.
