What is the Residence Pass-Talent?

The Malaysia Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T) is a premium 10-year renewable visa introduced by TalentCorp in April 2011 together with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM).

Unlike traditional work permits, the RP-T offers highly skilled expatriate talent the freedom to work and live in Malaysia without being tied to a specific employer. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for senior professionals, executives, and experts who want to contribute to Malaysia's economy on a longer-term basis.

Eligibility Requirements for RP-T

To qualify for the Residence Pass-Talent, you must meet all of the following minimum criteria

Work Experience in Malaysia

Has worked in Malaysia for a minimum of 3 consecutive years at the time of application

3+ Years Required

Valid Employment Pass

Holds a valid Employment Pass with more than 3 months validity during application/resubmission

EP Required

Minimum Salary

Earns a basic monthly salary of RM15,000 (excludes allowances and bonuses)

RM15,000/month

Educational Qualification

Holds a PhD/Master's/Bachelor's Degree/Diploma or professional certificate from recognized institution

Degree/Diploma

Total Work Experience

Possesses at least 5 years of total work experience (including outside Malaysia)

5+ Years Total

Tax Compliance

Has Malaysian income tax file number and paid income tax for the most recent 2 years minimum

2 Years Tax Paid

Priority Industries (NKEA)

Important Document Guidelines

  • All documents must be in English. If not, provide certified translations with originals
  • Birth and marriage certificates must be endorsed as Certified True Copy (CTC) by your embassy
  • Additional documents may be requested based on your specific case
  • Download forms (IMM12, IMM16, Sponsor Form) from the official RP-T application website

Pay Processing Fee

Pay RM300 processing fee online via Visa/MasterCard

Await Approval

After Approval

Once your Residence Pass is approved, you must:

  • Pay the issuance fee (approximately RM2,000 per application)
  • Submit your original passport to the Immigration Department of Malaysia
  • Receive your passport with the Residence Pass sticker affixed

Family of Malaysian Citizens

Eligible family members include:

  • Legal spouse
  • Children aged 18 and under
  • Biological parents
  • Parents-in-law with valid Pass
3+ years residency required

Family of Permanent Residents

Eligible family members include:

  • Legal spouse
  • Children aged 18 and under
5+ years residency required

Ex-Malaysian Citizens

Individuals who either:

  • Renounced their Malaysian citizenship
  • Lost their Malaysian citizenship

Application Process for Other Categories

Applications must be submitted in person at Immigration Department offices in Putrajaya or the nearest Immigration office

Both the applicant and sponsor must be present during application submission

Valid for 5 years and allows holder to work, study, and open a business without additional permits

Requires Malaysian sponsor who is at least 21 years old
