Who Needs a Malaysia Transit Visa?

Understanding when you need a transit visa depends on your nationality, transit duration, and airport facilities

You NEED a Transit Visa If:

  • Visa-Required Nationality

    You are from a country whose nationals need a Malaysia visa

  • Transit Over 24 Hours

    Your transit time exceeds 24 hours in Malaysia

  • Pass Through Immigration

    You need to collect luggage or switch terminals (KLIA to KLIA2)

  • Different Airport

    Transiting through airports other than KLIA

You DON'T Need Transit Visa If:

  • Transit at KLIA

    You transit through Kuala Lumpur International Airport

  • Under 24 Hours

    Your transit is shorter than 24 hours

  • Same Terminal

    Arrive and depart from the same point (no immigration clearance)

  • Same Flight

    Continuing journey on the same flight, OR eligible for Transit Pass

Malaysia Transit Pass (120 Hours)

The Transit Without Visa Facility allows certain visa-required nationals to clear immigration and enter Malaysia for up to 120 hours (5 days) during transit

Important Notice

Receiving a Transit Pass is not guaranteed even if you meet all eligibility requirements. The Immigration Officer at the point of entry has full discretion to approve or deny the Transit Pass based on their assessment.

South Asian Countries with Valid Visa

You are eligible for a Transit Pass if you meet ALL of the following:

Required Documents for Transit Pass

Present these documents to immigration officers at KLIA

Valid Passport

Must be valid for at least 6 months from entry date

Original Departing Flight Ticket

Physical ticket - booking numbers not accepted

Printed Flight Itinerary

Complete travel details and schedule

Valid Visa (if applicable)

Proof of Funds

Bank statements showing ability to support yourself
